Safety Caps Review

by admin on February 24, 2009

My husband and I have never been big on baby proofing because we have always watched D like a hawk. Besides that, he’s always been more interested in hanging out with us rather than seeing what he could get into. Then came the twins, especially DM. We don’t call him Baby Ninja for no reason! This kid is into everything and he’s just learning to crawl. Can you imagine what kind of fresh hell I’ll be going through when he’s really off and running?

We recently put covers on all of our outlets when we moved into our house because the outlets are so close to the floor and even D is finally getting to that age where he’d much rather do what I told him not to instead of heeding mommy’s warnings. At last, we’re safe. Or are we? I would bet most parents are like me and didn’t even give a 2nd thought as to whether or not their outlet covers were choking hazards! The answer to this, my dears, is yes, they are indeed little plastic choking hazards. Luckily for us, Safety Caps were developed.

George DeCell is the creator of the Safety Caps. His daughter, Sage, actually nearly suffocated on one of the standard sized covers which inspired him to make something safer. The Safety Caps are much larger and have a hole on either side, much like a pacifier.

I had the whole house baby proofed before my daughter came in the world. We did the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen and the cabinet under the sink in bathroom and all the outlets are covered. I just had twin boys that are 8 months old and I was crawling around last weekend and found 5 outlets that did not have covers on them and I am out. I have been checking these safety caps out and wish I can afford to replace all the one I have and 5 extra. But we are on a very TIGHT budget!

We went through on our hands and knees a few days ago after our son rolled over for the first time. We have thought about baby proofing, but havent started. We got 3 baby gates from family members yesterday and am looking into things like fireplace guards. We need electrical outlet covers but plan on purchasing them soon. These look much better than the ones I have seen so far. We didn’t have them as kids and never shocked ourselves because our parents watched us. But I rather be safe than sorry. You can turn your back for two seconds and thats all it takes. Thank you for the chance to win!

The biggest thing we did was put locks on all the drawers and cabinets, and I waited until my little one started crawling. We also used gates all over the house. Thanks!

We haven’t baby proofed anything yet, but I know we are going to have to do it soon! I want to get the cabinet and drawer locks and the thing to keep the toilet seat cover down to prevent drowning
