Swine Flu: A story in which our heroine has had enough

by admin on April 26, 2009

Great news everyone!  My husband was exposed to swine flu!

*oink*

And by great news, I mean I’m pissed.  And when I say I’m pissed, I mean I’m voraciously hungry for a beat down of epic proportions.

In hubby’s line of work, he encounters those that might live below the Mexican border.  Those that make their way north for jobs.  Those that hack and snot mercilessly all over themselves and spitter spatter all over my hubby.  It turns out that 8 of these individuals tested positive for Swine Flu and we just found this out today.  These men were apprehended two days ago.  The good news is that hubby’s a germophobe and wears gloves and masks whenever anyone he comes into contact with at work shows the slightest sign of the sniffles.  He also handwashes regularly and finishes it off with a nice lather of Purell.  The bad news?  The past 48 hours have been spent playing with Bubba, allowing Pita and Butterbean to explore his mouth with their chubby li’l baby hands (I’m pretty sure they’re currently fascinated with teeth), and, um, allowing me to explore, er…  Look.  You know where this is going.

So here I am, fidgeting and fretting at 10 ’till midnight, wondering if the kids are going to start coughing and what I can possibly do to avoid some kind of house hold pig flu fest.

Of all the things for him to come into contact with.  Of course it would be this.

Now, to rant on the political side of things: This would totally not even be a problem if our borders were sealed up. Savvy?
People are dying south of the line and we’re still sitting on our asses, wringing our hands, wondering out loud, “When will they stop coming over?”
Newsflash, kids. They aren’t going to. They don’t care to do it legally and they don’t necessarily have the time to do it that way. Have you been to Mexico? Do you know how corrupt it is? I’ve been there thrice and I don’t know that I’ll be doing it again. Once you get off the resorts, it’s poverty and destruction and cartels and my little heart breaks every time I see a homeless dog or a child in need. Why don’t we attempt to dig our heads out of our butts (not holding my breath!) and see what we can REALLY do to solve the issue. You know, policies and procedures aside. Be human.

Just a thought.

Mexico and politics now aside, I’m off to google Swine Flu prevention. As if this information is going to help me 48 hours after the fact.

Yikes!!! I hope you are all clear of the “piggy parasites”. I was just watching the whole thing on the news. It sounds terrible. I’m just going to make sure we are all on good vitamins and eating healthy so if we get it, our bodies will be able to fight it off better. I have 2 very sick kids right now. Every now and then it makes me wonder if it could be this pig flu.

On the whole “border” issue, I’m with you. Just because someone lives on one side of this invisible line, and I live on the other, doesn’t make them any less human than me. They love, need, hope, laugh, and cry just the same as everyone else. I’m ashamed to say I’ve done nothing to help the issue though. I don’t know how to even begin to know what I could do.

Good luck with your families health right now. I’ll say a prayer tonight that your immune systems are TIP TOP!

Oh! I’ll be thinking of you. The fact that you know he was exposed is a good thing, because you can be very alert for signs!

I’m sure everyone will be fine, at least you’re aware though that theres a greater possibility for your family.

I’ve been thinking that Boug’s got it since last night, but I know that she probably doesn’t.

BTW, you have an award waiting for you on my site!
