Battling Baby Weight – or – Yes, 19 months later, I’m still fat.

by admin on February 4, 2010

Can I just start by telling you how hard it is to slim down after you’ve done away with your thyroid?

A year before I had the twins, I had my thyroid ablated.  I was in Grave’s disease territory and was told that a little dose of radioactive iodine would not only get rid of that pesky problem but would also help me to achieve my goal of being on medication for the rest of my life by the age of 25.  Yay, me.

Sure, it was all fun and games at first.  I quit losing my hair, my organs quit swelling, and my resting heart rate was no longer in the 90′s.  But then the complete crap started that made me want to throw the bullshit flag.  I had the twins and the weight crept off like it was doing some kind of quiet walk of shame.  Yep, that’s right extra pounds, don’t shed too quickly.  Someone might see you.  God forbid someone knows that my ass hasn’t always been this big.

So I’m fed up.  I have made it my goal this year to get back down to 130.

That’s 28 lbs I need to lose.

Lord help me.

Motivation is a serious problem for me as I’m sure it is for many moms.  Why would you want to go work out when the kids or your spouse need you?  Isn’t there a room to be cleaned?  A birthday party to attend?  A family get together of some sort that you need to prepare for?  I also have to compete with my friend, exhaustion.  She’s a bitch and she’s currently present.  Some of it has to do with raising three boys under 5, I’m sure of it, but most of it is due to my thyroid level being off kilter.  How do I know it’s thEA Sports Activeat?  Try hypothroidism for a few days.  No one does tired like it.  If I feel like take a nap an hour after I’ve woken up from 10 hours of sleep, I know my levels need to be checked and my medication needs to be adjusted.

My plan (after going to my endocrinologist, of course)?  I’m going to be doing a hodge podge of things.  I’ll be hitting up my Wii Fit, my EA Sports Active games, the gym, and figuring out some kind of diet plan.  The latter is going to suck so hard because I love food.  I love to cook, I lovwii-fite to bake, I love to taste test.  Good bye, Paula Dean.  Hello, Cooking Light.

I’ll be weighing in once a week and addressing any progress that has been made just as often, if not more.

Are you trying to slim down, too?  How are you doing and what are you doing?

*If you have been diagnosed with a thyroid disease or think you might be heading down that path, check out Thyroid-Info.  It’s got a wealth of information and I’ve found it so helpful.

A week ago I started counting calories and working out on the Wii Fitness for 30 minutes each day. I have lost 4 lbs already! I have never been more motivated and am ready to kick up my workout time :) I told my husband that the only thing I would like for Valentines day is EA Sports Active. I am hoping he gets it for me.

I’ve been trying to slim down too and it’s been super tough. I am a HUGE food lover, like HUGE. I don’t know if it’s the Italian in me or what. But either way it’s making life real hard to not be able to eat the things I love.

To plan my “diet” I use caloriecount.about.com. It helps me plan out my calorie intake each day and I can record when I workout too. As for working out I do Leslie Sansone walking workouts. It sounds so dumb but it really is the best workout for me. I want to get the Wii Fit bad! I don’t know how often I’d use it but the concept entertains me.

I have to lose about triple what you have to thanks to my love for food. So far I’ve lost almost 14lbs in a month. So I’m happy. I can’t wait to see your progress!

My biggest problem is food. It’s “easy” to exercise but not so easy to not eat LOL I also have a thyroid problem which I blame for my weight gain (who knows if it really is solely to blame).

I love playing on my Wii Fit to add to my exercise routine! :)

Yup yup. I’ve had hypothyroidism for as long as I can remember. I got used to having a shitty metabolism and therefore I kind of am a pro at eating vs. not eating. I can’t overdo it or else I’ll easily gain 2-3 pounds in a single day. And getting the weight off is a real bear. Keeping it off is even harder. I’m down about 19 pounds from a few months ago though so my hard work is paying off. It’s just SO FRIGGING SLOW. And I’ve plateaued. So that sucks. The constant struggle is a real bitch.

Oh yeah. I feel ya. I had (have) a lot of trouble with my weight because I’m a major food lover too. I found a lot of help on sparkpeople.com. It’s got a nutrition section to track all your food (easy, too) and a fitness section to track your workouts (and it includes Wii Fit and stuff, too). On top of that, it comes with FREE recipes, advice, articles, etc etc etc. I cannot recommend the site enough.

Okay were we separated at birth? WTF?! So woman…I lost 45lbs last year (with food! chocolate and all!!) and this year….I too want to lose another ….yes ANOTHER 45 to be @ 130. We can do it. I am doing South Beach again right now with my Wii and jogging. Its a process I tell you. As for the thyroid…had a problem with it before I had Grant…haven’t seen anything from it since. BUT…I super juice myself on vitamins organics and lean protein.
